open-back dress is finished!

Do you remember the post ‘i love…cut-out details’? I mentioned how I was working on an open-back dress a bit like Vivat Veritas’. Well, it is finished! The hold-up was due to getting hold of an invisible zipper foot, which was pretty impossible where I live. Luckily I caught a ride yesterday to the Mall where I knew they sold these feet and managed to finish the dress off when I got home.

I began the dress as Vivat Veritas had, with Danielle as a base, but there was so much resizing needed that by the end the time it fit me, it certainly was not the same pattern! I also gave the bodice a scoop neck, and cut out a hole in the back so it was one piece, instead of two.

I fully lined the bodice and the waist band, but as I didn’t want any topstitching, I had to handstitch the inside of the waist band which was a bit of a pain. But I am pretty happy with the result and cannot wait to show it off!

This turned out really great! Did you use a pattern or just made it up as you went?

    • Thank you! Well, I loosely used Burdastyle’s Danielle for the bodice, but it needed a lot of resizing. The rest of the pattern was just rectangles, and I just drew it straight out on the fabric. Quite a simple pattern really!

I found your creation via V. V.! Omagash, this is so cute I have no words.

The scoop neck in the front is just perfect!
Did you line the neckline with a hint of lace or is ((laughs)) that undergarments?

I would make one for myself but I’m not far enough along in my sewing to make those crazy adjustments! Sad, sad. ^_^

    • Thank you so much!
First of all, I just looked at your blog and absolutely love it! I don’t think you would have trouble making this dress. Afterall, I’ve only been *properly* sewing for a couple of months now..
Second, the lace is actually undergarments, yes!! Although it is a backless dress and I can’t wear a bra, I did for the pictures because I need a little shape-help ^_^
